RICHARD DICKSON
‘Now, where are we or more precisely where
am I? Self denial or denial of ones self if
preserved for long enough becomes a mask that
calcifies into a false reality.’
Masks are the pivotal image for Richard’s
response to the curatorial steer of this exhibition.
For him, the disintegration and dismantling of
this shield is possibly best explored and
examined in the ceramic medium due to its
willingness to be transformed, both in form and
texture.
As an artist working in a variety of mediums,
Richard draws his ideas from a number of
sources but primarily from his own life
experience and the power and physicality of
natural forms in the animal, organic and notably
human world.
He sees interpreting these forces
as a challenge and a journey which may
culminate in a realistic response that doesn’t
necessarily reflect reality, while others contain
elements of stylisation and even abstraction.
